CHAPTER 2 CONECTING THE DOTS. UNCOVERING THE POWER OF YOUR WANDERINGS.

"The more you know about different disciplines and are able see the connections between those disciplines, the more you are able to create innovative solutions to problems. Your mind is able to wander into many territories. Your knowledge of chemistry, for example, might improve your thinking in the field of biology. Or your understanding of poetry might make you a better therapist."

This fragment is a description of the value of multidisciplinary perspectives by Nobel Laureate Dr. Herbert Simon who had degrees in different disciplines. He explains the importance of making a connection between field that you are interested in and putting them together. From my understanding, many students who are planning their careers should know that knowledge that they acquire in one area of life can be applied to different settings.

"Charles Munger, vice chair of Berkshire Hathaway and business partner of Warren Buffet, the richest man in the world (…) believes that to fully understand the stock market and investments, you need to apply knowledge from disparate field, including philosophy, physic, psychology, history, economics, biology, and literature. He states that only by understanding the key elements of each of these fields and then putting them together into a cohesive latticework can one develop what he calls “worldly wisdom,” an invaluable means of making intelligent decision.”

Acoording to Charles Munger applying yhe knowlege from different fields is the key to success. According to Charles Munger applying the knowledge from different fields is the key to success. Students, while planning their careers, should be able to apply all their experience, skills and knowledge to achieve success in future.

"Many students and recent graduates include their study-abroad experience in their Wandering Maps. When surveyed their college experiences, graduates almost always rank their study abroad experience as one of the best and most fulfilling times in their lives. They cite the unexpected benefits they receive from the experience and the many skills and talents they acquired, almost without realizing it."

The study-abroad experiences give students many skills that may interest an employer.Studying abroad lets you learn about other cultures, make new friends, and develop career benefits. Moreover, international benefits those students who ate seeking careers in almost any fields. I believe that every employer will recognize your skills that are acquire oversees and would consider you as an informed, confident person who is able to learn quickly and adapt to changing conditions.

CHAPTER 1 A BUTTERFLY FLAPS ITS WINGS AND YOU FIND A JOB: Chaos and Your Career Plans.

"Whatever your reason for pursing your major, you like many others, are probably struggling with THE QUESTIONS: What do I do with this degree? Where is my linear path?"

I think that this is a very good fragment of the Chapter 1 because it makes you to think about your major, skills you posses which fit into the workplace, and the relationship between them. Everyone before planing a career should answer yourself these two questions to make sure that the major and your future job reflect what you really would like to do in your life.

"For instance, if you use traditional deductive reasoning, where you start with one personal trait and expand it to a career factor, you might follow this logical train of thought:

- Pilots must have strong attention to detail.

-I have strong attention to detail.

-I should be a pilot."

According to the traditional linear thinking and reasoning, I think that this is very simple way to determine what type of skills you posses and if you can apply them to your future job. One of the challenges of this type of career planning is that if one statement is inaccurate, then the reasoning falls apart. So if your skills and interests have nothing in common with your major or a job that you would like to perform in a future, then you should really consider changing your major.

"Chaos theory helps us predict the outcome of complex situation by asking us to assess what we currently know, what we cannot know, and what we can learn. Then we can make reasonable choices based on that information. So instead of trying to predict a future you can't see, you can start your career planning by focusing on what know right now, what you don't know and what you can learn"

As far as chaos theory is considered, I think that this theory can give you a better understanding how to plan your career that will result in a future success. It also may help you to determine what you already know or what you should learn and find the connection between your interests and success. You can easily apply the information that you already know about yourself, apply to your future career and predict if your future career would make you satisfied.

ENFJ Extraverted iNtuitive Feeling Judging

The analysis of my type formula:

-slightly expressed extravert
-moderately expressed intuitive personality
-slightly expressed feeling personality
-slightly expressed judging personality

After completing the Myer's-Briggs personality test, the test results show that I have a type of personality that is extravert, intuitive, feeling and judging.
According to that personality types the following are the most suitable occupations along with some examples of educational institutions: counseling, psychology, social work, education or physician. Comparing the test results to my personality I agree with the test outcome. I consider myself as an introvert but I love meeting and interact with other people which are characteristics of extravert.

After taking the test I have to admit that I was very surprised with it results because I think that somehow the test shows what type of personality I have. Overall I find this test very interesting and I really enjoyed it because I could find out more about ENFJ personality.

Results of Work Values Survey

According to the survey my personalized work values are:

-achievement
-security
-altruism
-variety
-economic return

Taking the survey results into consideration, I completely agree with its results. Feeling of accomplishment in doing a job well, job security or helping others are values that are most important for me while performing work. Moreover, opportunity to perform different types of work or earning money is another values which would bring self-satisfaction and fulfilling my dream job expectations.
However all values are important for me, creativity and esthetics are not the values which I would consider as the important ones. Inventing new things, making beautiful things or developing new idea that expressing myself are values that would not make me happy and satisfied while performing a work.
